It’s become a natural process to think of Chris Hemsworth and his bizarre Shakespearian accent when thinking of Thor these days however Marvel are doing all they can to change that.
This week Marvel announced that once the Thor: God Of Thunder comic series had finished it would be relaunched with an all new female Thor.
The writers quickly wanted to reassure readers that this isn’t a new character but just a revision of the original, here is series writer Jason Aaron’s statement;
“This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”
Marvel’s reasoning for the decision is a simple one, they feel the Marvel universe is male orientated without enough female heroes for female readership to look up to and/or relate to. With the brand new female Thor there is still only 8 comics to have a female lead, something Marvel feel needs addressing.
Personally I’m looking forward to it, I wouldn’t get your knickers in a twist about the male Thor disappearing all together as it’s been hinted he will have a new series but instead of wielding his trustworthy Mjölnir (which the female lead will now be using) he could be seen with the almighty battle axe Jarnbjorn.
For now take a look at the brand new Goddess of Thunder.
